BWH, 2024 recap.

Let's recap the past year and imagine what is to come!

· 4 min read

I was not going to write this, but then a friend pointed out to me a few things that have happened in the past year...

One more year has passed by, but I don’t think it was a “normal” year for me. Both personally and professionally it was a very adventurous year for me.

The Start

The year 2024 started with planning my first in-person Framework bootcamp, in Dubai, UAE. Africa trip was also being laid out in parallel. So, 2 confirmed international trips to kick off the year! I like to believe that these opportunities came my way because of BWH becoming popular among the community.

Going places... literally!

For my first international trip ever, I got to visit the beautiful cities of Nairobi (Kenya) and Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania). I also conducted a Frappe Framework crash course in Nairobi:

One thing I realised during this trips was the impact BWH is making by filling in the content gaps. Meeting the community in-person and getting to know their stories was just amazing! After this experience, sitting at home and talking to the camera was never the same again.

For those who have been following me on Social Media know that I recorded a vlog during the trip, which never got published. It lays there on my shiny new external SSD, waiting to be edited 😬

In less than a month after returning from the Africa trip, it was time for Dubai. Here I was accompanied by Sharique, and man we had a lot of fun. We got to meet a lot of community members and hear a lot of Frappeverse stories. One of the best outcome of this trip was recording the training. More on this in the next section. You can read more about my Dubai experience in this blog post.

My international trip “sprint” of 2024 ended with the Riyadh, KSA. BTW I have this new ritual of getting fridge magnets from every country I visit:

Special thanks to the community members who make such “work” trips so fun and memorable!

The power of compounding and impact

After returning from Dubai, I spent a lot of time editing and publishing the recorded training videos. Surprisingly they were an absolute hit! Day 1 training of Dubai Bootcamp is still the most popular video on my channel with close to 40K views!

I also brewed up a course on Frappe School based on this videos:

This course has now become a go to material for learning Frappe Framework development and also getting certified as a Frappe Developer. Success of this set of videos led me to re-purpose more of my existing content into courses:

FrappeUI Training Course on Frappe School

In fact, I conducted the FrappeUI training just so I could record it and make it into a course 😆

Winning FOSS Hack

I won at FOSS Hack for the second time. But this time, I live-streamed the whole thing! I built Batwara.app, an open-source alternative to Splitwise built on top of Frappe Framework!

The livestreams are now edited into a playlist and you can find it here. This reminds me I have to make some enhancements to this app and make it “useful” 🙈

Getting Married

Yeah, 2024 was the last year of my bachelor life :p

A bunch of friends and colleagues joined me all the way from Mumbai and Pune at my hometown. Thank you guys, you made it a lot more fun and memorable!

BWH 2.0

Just after my marriage, I started thinking about resuming live streams, but I was having hard time getting back into “build” mode. One more thing that bugged me was the production quality. During the break, I came across lots of good content and it made me feel bad about my current setup. After a lot of brainstorming and procrastinating, I decided to get a new studio build:

I also bought a new camera and better lighting setup. I revealed this at Frappeverse 2024 and the response was overwhelming! I am finally happy with the production quality. Still a long way to go for content quality and quantity though.

Here is how it started (1st January, 2024):

Here is how it is going:

Up next?

Lot of stuff on the board:

But the mission remains same: have fun and share as much as I can, with excellent quality! Will we hit 50K subscribers by end of this year? Who knows.

YT has sent me a summary of 2024 just in time:
